Program Components
Grants and Loans:

Low and moderate-income homeowners and investors/developers may be eligible for Lead Paint Hazard Control Grants of up to $8,000 per unit for lead abatement to residential properties located in the City of Lawrence. In addition, the program offers zero percent interest loans to owner-occupants to subsidize the deleading costs in excess of the grant award.

Community Outreach and Education:

The Lawrence Lead Abatement Program partners with GLCAC’s Merrimack Valley Lead Poisoning Prevention Program who are available to meet with community groups, landlords, tenants and others to provide information regarding lead hazard awareness and ways to reduce exposure in the home.

Lead Worker Training:

Lead Worker Training opportunities are available through the Lawrence Lead Abatement Program’s alliance with Environmental Management Training, Inc. (EMT), who will be providing lead worker training to 140 low-income Lawrence residents. Individuals who successfully complete the training sessions will receive Lead Worker Certification and medical examinations required to work in the Lead Abatement industry. In addition, the Lawrence Lead Program will pay for lead worker licenses through the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety. Graduates will also receive protective personal equipment, including respirators, gloves and coveralls. ETA's trainees will also receive a pre-employment physical examinations from another program partner, Lawrence General Hospital. All successful trainees will then receive a Massachusetts Lead Worker license, also paid for by the program. Professional Lead Hazard Awareness Training:

The Lawrence Health Department is offering Lead Hazard Awareness Training for medical center employees, pediatricians and primary care physicians and their office employees are available through the Lawrence Lead Program. Arrangements can be made for a one hour presentation to be delivered to community groups, medical facilities, doctor’s office staffs, daycare providers and others. The presentation has been CEU certified for nurses. Additional information can be obtained from the LLAP office.
