Relief Fund and Crisis Intervention

The Community Service Center has been instrumental in the fundraising for several crises that have affected over the community, locally and over seas, with local fires and natural disasters.

PhotoOn January 21, 2008 The City of Lawrence experienced a fire that left several families homeless, in an effort to assist these families, the CSC, Director Isabel Melendez, approached the city of Lawrence Mayor Mr. Michael Sullivan for help. Mayor Sullivan responded by providing a donation drop off site, The Formerly Saunders School located at 243 Broadway St., since then the Formerly Saunders School site has been a donation drop off site not only for those fire victims, but to local low income families in need of furniture clothing, household items and, recently newcomers, inmates who are released with no place to live, and many more emergency needed individuals and families. As of today the CSC had been able to provide assistance with clothing, food and furniture to 500 families and 1,000 individuals. The CSC likes to thank all those donors who came forward on the effort to assist all the fire victims and beyond.
